Camels Hump
Vermont's wild alpine summit offering 360° Green Mountain panoramas and rare northeastern tundra above the treeline.
About this spectacle
Camel's Hump is one of Vermont's most iconic summits, rising prominently above the Green Mountains with its distinctive double-humped silhouette visible for miles across the Champlain Valley. Hikers ascending through northern hardwood and boreal forest emerge onto open alpine tundra at the summit, a rare ecological zone in the northeastern United States. The treeless peak offers sweeping 360-degree panoramas: the Lake Champlain basin stretches westward toward the Adirondacks, while the rolling forested ridgelines of Vermont extend in every direction. In autumn, the hillsides ignite with fiery maples and birches, drawing visitors for some of New England's most celebrated fall foliage views. Wind-scoured and exposed, the summit rewards effort with an elemental feeling of open sky and vast landscape.
