About this spectacle

Calf Creek Falls Lower is a stunning desert waterfall tucked within the Grand Staircase-Escalante region of southern Utah. Visitors hike through a red-rock canyon corridor, passing ancient granaries and riparian cottonwood groves before arriving at a dramatic 126-foot cascade that plunges into a turquoise swimming pool. The surrounding sandstone walls tower overhead, streaked with desert varnish. The sound of the falls echoes off the canyon walls, and the cool mist offers welcome relief from the desert heat. The pool is popular for swimming. The contrast between the arid slickrock landscape and the lush oasis at the falls base is visually striking and deeply refreshing.
