About this spectacle

Burgess Falls State Park in Tennessee is home to a dramatic series of four waterfalls cascading along the Falling Water River, culminating in a powerful main falls that plunges roughly into a deep gorge below. Visitors follow a forested trail beside the river, hearing the roar intensify with each successive drop before arriving at a viewpoint above the final, largest falls. The surrounding hardwood forest frames the scene with lush greenery in spring and summer, and brilliant foliage in autumn. The mist rising from the base, the geological rock layers exposed in the gorge walls, and the sheer visual force of the water in motion make this a compelling destination for photographers and hikers alike. A shorter out-and-back trail allows those with less time to experience at least the upper falls, while the full trail rewards with the grand finale.
