Bohemian Paradise Unesco Global Geopark — Czechia
A fairy-tale landscape of sandstone rock towers, medieval castle ruins, and forested gorges in the heart of Bohemia.
About this spectacle
Bohemian Paradise UNESCO Global Geopark in the Liberec Region of Czechia is a landscape of dramatic sandstone rock towers, labyrinthine gorges, and deep forest corridors carved over millions of years. Visitors wander between towering needle-like pillars and through narrow sandstone canyons where light filters in thin shafts. Ruins of medieval castles perch improbably atop rock formations, giving the scenery a fairy-tale quality. The area is laced with marked hiking trails that wind through boulder fields and beneath overhanging cliffs. Autumn colours transform the forested ridges into warm ochres and reds, while spring brings wildflower meadows in the valleys. The sheer variety of rock shapes — arches, pedestals, chimneys — means every turn reveals something new. Birdsong echoes between stone walls in the quieter gorges, and the overall atmosphere is one of intimate geological wonder on a human scale.
