The Yellowstone River meanders through the scene, steam curling from thermal vents nearby. Coyotes trot opportunistically among the periphery, sandhill cranes wade the shallows, and wolves may ghost the far treeline. The bulls' apparent docility is deceptive — they can accelerate with terrifying speed and have injured more park visitors than bears and wolves combined. Lamar Valley offers a second stage to the same drama. This is not a managed wildlife viewing experience; it is a functioning, intact North American grassland ecosystem playing out its oldest seasonal script, visible from a paved roadside without leaving your vehicle.
