About this spectacle

Baker's Falls is a striking waterfall tucked within Horton Plains National Park in Sri Lanka's central highlands. Visitors follow a well-worn trail through montane grassland and cloud forest, emerging at a viewpoint where the water cascades in a broad, curtain-like drop into a rocky gorge below. The air here carries a persistent cool mist and the sounds of rushing water mingle with birdsong from the surrounding shola forest. The falls are part of the Belihul Oya river system and sit at notable elevation, lending them a moody, atmospheric quality — particularly on overcast mornings when low cloud rolls across the plateau. The walk to reach them passes through Horton Plains' open patanas, offering glimpses of sambar deer and endemic birds en route. The experience rewards visitors with both the drama of the falls themselves and the surrounding highland wilderness, making it a highlight of any trek through the park.
