About this spectacle

Amicalola Falls in northern Georgia is one of the tallest cascading waterfalls in the eastern United States, plunging dramatically down a series of rocky ledges through dense hardwood forest. Visitors hear the roar of the falls long before they see them, and the spray creates a cool mist that drifts across the viewing areas. The surrounding forest changes dramatically through the seasons — bright wildflowers in spring, deep green canopy in summer, vivid foliage in autumn, and occasional ice formations on the rocks in winter. A network of trails and boardwalks allows close-up views from multiple angles, and the falls sit at the approach to the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail, giving the site a feeling of adventure and wilderness even for day visitors. The late-day light catches the white water beautifully against the dark rock face.
